Thomaston- Mr. Harrow M. “Sandy” Kindness, Jr, 73, passed away on Thursday morning, September 10, at his home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Dusak) Kindness.
Sandy was born May 19, 1942 in Waterbury, son of the late Harrow M. and Ruth (Litchfield) Kindness, Sr. Raised in Thomaston he attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School class of 1960. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Springfield College and his Master’s degree from Temple University.
Sandy began his teaching career at Lower Marion High School in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, where he also coached football and wrestling. In 1978 he returned to Connecticut. After two years working in different fields he went back to teaching and coaching at New Fairfield High School until his retirement in 2010. When he wasn’t teaching he remained active with many different endeavors. He also had served on the Zoning Board for the town of Thomaston for several years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Todd C. Kindness of Thomaston; a niece, Katherine A. Kindness; his nephews, G. Scott Kindness and his wife Jeannine and James L. Kindness; great nephews, Sean, Carl and Andrew and great nieces, Sarah and Abby. He was predeceased by his son, Kristian Palmer and brother, George H. Kindness.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 16, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Connecticut Community Foundation for the Kristin F. Palmer Scholarship Fund, 43 Field Street Waterbury, CT 06702 or to the Charity of the Donor’s choice.
