Thomaston- Hazel Arlene Didsbury was born July 3, 1924 to the late Harry S. Didsbury and Martha (Cole) Didsbury, the youngest of five children. She passed away peacefully on April 15 at Rose Haven in Litchfield at the age of 89.

Hazel graduated from Thomaston High School and Perry’s Business School in Waterbury. She spent her entire career at Scovill Manufacturing Co., starting during WWII as a toolmaker trainee and retiring as secretary to the legal counsel over 40 years later. During her retirement she attended classes at Northwestern CT Community College and volunteered more than 6000 hours at Waterbury Hospital.

Hazel traveled extensively, visiting England, Scotland, Italy, Greece, China, New Zealand and Australia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston for 74 years.

Hazel is survived by her nieces Ellen Joy Schlicher, Sandra Cote, Linda Geddes and her husband Eugene and her nephew Michael Didsbury. She is also survived by 12 grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Martha and her husband Howard, brother Lester and his wife Edna and their son Richard, sister Frances and her husband Stephen and their son Howard and her brother Miles and his wife Alice.

The family extends is gratitude to all those at Rose Haven and VNS Hospice who provided who provided Hazel with exceptional care and kindness during her last days.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Northfield Cemetery.
