Arthur C, Johnson, age 75 of Thomaston, Connecticut died on 3/21/2024 at 10:10am. Arthur was born on May 3, 1948, son of the late Kenneth and Clotilde (Wood) Johnson. Art graduated from Thomaston High School, class of 1966.

Art attended the University of Minnesota before entering the New England Institute of Anatomy of Embalming & Funeral Directing in Boston Massachusetts.

Art married his high school sweetheart Mary Jane (Remeika) of Litchfield Connecticut on September 9, 1972 at the Litchfield Congregational Church. He and Mary Jane moved to Boston for 3 years until they returned to Connecticut and settled down in the town of Woodbury in 1975, where they raised their two children, Kristen Sarah and Benjamin Seth.

Art worked as a Senior Forensic Technician for the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office of the State of Connecticut for many years. He then worked as Director and Manager of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Danbury and New Fairfield Connecticut for 25 years. He then left the funeral business and became the Coordinator of the Connecticut Eye Bank at the New Britain General Hospital and worked there till he retired.

While Art worked as the Director of Tomlinson Funeral Home, he was credited with the discovery of a homicide that slipped through the cracks. He received a letter of commendation from Dr. Edward McDonough, Deputy Chief of the Medical Examiner’s Office of the State of Connecticut. Throughout his career in the funeral business, he taught and mentored many people along the way that followed in his footsteps.

Art was a member of The North Congregational Church of Woodbury, where he was a member of the Channel Choir and was known for his wonderful singing voice. Art served as an Assistant coach for both boys and girls soccer for his son and daughters teams. He also served as an Assistant coach for the Woodbury Pop Warner League.

Art joined the Union Masonic Lodge of Thomaston and was initiated on February 21, 1984 and was raised as a Master Mason May 22, 1984. He is presently a member of St. Paul’s Lodge Hall A.F. & A.M. of Litchfield Connecticut.

Art was an avid fisherman and gardener, he had a great love for cooking and was known for his creative style cooking loved by his family and friends. Art loved watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He also loved spending time at home enjoying his eight grandchildren and just recently added great granddaughter. Art reveled in the tons of joy his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter brought him.

Besides his wife Mary Jane of 51 years, he leaves his son Benjamin of Woodbury, and his daughter Kristen Wheeler and her husband Randy Wheeler of Litchfield. His sister Ingrid Laigle of Porter Maine, his eight grandchildren Benjamin, Carter, Levi, Mallory Jean and David all of Woodbury. Melvin, Keven and Ember all of Litchfield, as well as a great granddaughter Colleen Justine, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 4-7:00pm on Friday, March 29, at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High Street Thomaston. Funeral services will be held at The North Congregational Church in Woodbury on Saturday at 11:00am. Burial will be private.
