Harwinton –  Jeanne (Kingston) DiMaria, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 12, at Litchfield Woods in Torrington. She was the wife of Richard DiMaria.

Jeanne was born December 6, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MN, daughter of the late Floyd Kingston and Helen (Schultze) Padden. Born and raised in Grand Rapids, MN she attended school in Deluth, MN and graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles, CA. Upon graduation, she taught elementary school in Los Angeles before accepting a teaching position in Germany with the Defense Department where she taught American servicemen’s children.  It was there, Jeanne met her husband Dick.  They settled in Thomaston and after raising their children, went back to teaching at Thomaston High School.

She was active in the planning and the furnishing of the Thomaston Public Library.  She enjoyed volunteer work including Literacy Volunteers, Maryknoll Missionaries and Global Volunteers where she traveled with her husband to foreign countries.    Jeanne was a communicant of St. Thomas Church where she was a member of the Council of Catholic Women.  She will be remembered for her love of travel and her planning trips and social events for friends.  Her family is especially grateful and will remember the many places they visited together.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by her daughter, Katherine Cornell and her husband Derek and their daughter, Caroline of Manchester, VT; her sons, Rick DiMaria, of Rockwall, TX, Michael DiMaria and his partner, Dr. Anthony Iorio of Westport, CT  and Stephen DiMaria of Avon, CT and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother, James LeSueur.

Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 18, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. in Thomaston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be private at a later date.
