Thomaston, CT – Kathleen A. (Long) Tobin, passed away on Monday evening, January 29, 2024, at her home, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

Kathleen was born in Montpelier, VT in 1949, daughter of the late Edward P. and Mary E. (Gallagher) Long. Raised in Thomaston, she attended local schools and graduated from Thomaston High School, class of 1967, and attended the University of Connecticut–Waterbury. She was a former member of the Thomaston Board of Education and the Thomaston Public Library Board. Until her retirement in 2017, she was an Administrative Assistant to the Town Manager of Watertown, CT.

Kathy, in support of her son Sean, was very active in and devoted her time to the Watertown Area Association for Special Citizens and the many programs it provides and supports, including Special Olympics. She enjoyed reading, attending concerts and plays at the Thomaston Opera House and watching the Yankees.

She is survived by her children, Julie Prescott and her husband Wayne of Plainville, CT, Karin Tobin of Fairfield, IA and Sean Tobin of Cheshire; her siblings, Patricia Dodge and her husband Gary of East Harwich, MA, Janet West of Kirkland, WA, Suzanne Niles and her husband David of Jackson Hole, WY and Margaret Plekan and her husband Bill of Morris, CT; her brother-in-law, Bernardo Piciche of Richmond, VA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother John.

Her family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center in Waterbury, CT and Hartford HealthCare Hospice in Watertown, CT for their kind support.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street Thomaston, CT 06787. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Burial is private.

Memorial contributions may be made in Kathleen’s name to the Watertown Area Association for Special Citizens, c/o Joe McGrail, 87 Pleasant View St., Oakville, CT 06779.
