Thomaston – Mr. Paul H. Tracy, 92, died on Saturday, July 8, at Cook Willow Convalescent Home in Plymouth. He was the husband of Mary (Hedler) Tracy.

Paul was born February 20, 1925 in Waterbury, son of the late Arthur W. and Gertrude (Addis) Tracy. Raised in Waterbury he attended Hopeville Grammar School and Crosby High School. He had served in the U.S. Army, 18th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron from May 1943 until November 1945 in the European Theater, Germany. He received the Purple Heart when the tank he was driving in hit a land mine.

Mr. Tracy ran the Art Shoppe in Thomaston from October of 1953 until May of 1989. His interests were drawing, painting and photography. His main subjects were old barns. He was always looking for a bumper sticker which read “I brake for old barns”. He was active in local politics, serving on the Republican Town Committee and the Recreation Commission in the late 1950’s. He had served as president of the Visiting Nursing Assoc, the Laura Andrews Free Library Assoc., served on the Board of Selectman, the Tax Collectors, Board of Education and was Treasurer for eight years.

He was a member of St. Peters Trinity Parish since 1954, serving over the years on the Vestry, Parish Clerk and Treasurer. He was a member of the Masons for over fifty years, the American Legion, charter member of the Lions Club, Corporator of the Thomaston Savings Bank, a member of the Watertown Art League and a member of the “Rogues”, an art group affiliated with 550 Art Gallery in Bethlehem.

In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by one son, Carl Tracy and his wife Deborah Schreiber; one daughter, Eileen Tracy; two sisters, Marion Riggott and Barbara Candee and her husband Edward; two grandsons, Daniel and Jacob and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Addis Tracy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s - Trinity Church in Thomaston. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
