Thomaston- Mr. Alexander Harkness, 84, passed away on Friday, February 6, at the Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Helen Bernice (Czarnecki) Harkness.
Mr. Harkness worked as a porter for the Reymonds Baking Company in Waterbury retiring after 33 years. He served honorably in the Korean conflict from 1950-1951 and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in his hometown.
Mr. Harkness was born September 22, 1930 in Waterbury, son of the late Angus and Martha (Hackney) Harkness.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five sons, David and his wife Maria, Bruce, Brian and his wife Janet, Richard and his wife Andrea, and Keith and his wife Kim; one daughter, Holly J. Kirk; three sisters, Blanche Vardon, Ann Mae Gore and Margaret Spina; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, of which we have lost count, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Lachlan Harkness and his sister Christine Edmondson.
Arrangements: All services are private. Burial with full military honors will be held in Hillside Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home of Thomaston.
