Obituary

Allie Warner Bassett, 90, (widow of Roger Bassett, Larry Stanchfield, and Robert Kucheravy), passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2025. She was born on August 29, 1935 in Thomaston to the late Lewis and Charlotte (Salmon) Warner.

Allie graduated from Thomaston High School in 1953, where she lettered in varsity basketball, making the All Berkshire team in her junior and senior years. Allie also received both Competent Typist and Shorthand Speed certificates. She worked at Scovill Manufacturing as an office clerk; Time-Mist where she processed sales orders; Elm Press as a bindery processor and secretary; Tech Systems as a customer service/sales coordinator; Valenti Motors doing clerical work; and B&L Swiss Screw Machine as a machinist.

Allie will be remembered for her love of horses and her active involvement as a Connecticut 4-H leader. A co-founder of the Nutmeg Riders 4-H Club, she could often be found as the trail ride caboose, belting out many an off-key country tune. Allie participated in the Ride for Research which supported the Morris Animal Foundation and the Thomaston Centennial celebration. An avid bowler, Allie was part of the PBA Tour where she partnered with professional bowlers. She bowled in the TUMS classic Pro-Am, TUMS Classic Bradley Bowl, and the Greater Hartford Pro-Am. She easily held her own against these pros and even bowled a 246! Allie enjoyed a good card game, from Rummy to Spades to Setback. When the occasion warranted, the 'Warner' rules were invoked, and she would chalk up another win. Anyone close to Allie knew she was a huge UConn fan. From wearing shirts and sweatshirts to owning flags, mugs and blankets to watching both men's and women's basketball games, Allie made sure to support the Huskies.

Allie loved sharing experiences and traveling with family. Allie visited Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy and Austria with her children. She frequently took her grandchildren and nieces/nephews on trips around Connecticut and up and down the East Coast. These trips were usually longer than anticipated and involved asking the children for help reading maps, since directions were not her forte. One fond memory involved a midnight jaunt to a gravel parking lot in the middle of nowhere trying to read an atlas under a single lamppost. Allie and her sisters travelled cross country to visit the Grand Canyon, Arizona and Colorado. On one of her many sister trips, she achieved her dream of seeing the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Allie loved country music and owned many Johnny Cash records.

Allie is survived by three children, Kathy Holland and her husband Brian of Columbia, MD, Judy Borbas of Bristol, and Bob Kucheravy and his wife Alison Williams of North Little Rock, AR; three grandchildren, Sarah Holland, Kim and Kyle Borbas; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Shirley Hazelton, Millie Edwards, Sally Gladych, Robert Warner Sr, Tina Banks, and Lewis Warner Jr.

Calling hours at Lyon's Funeral Home in Thomaston are Thursday, September 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will also be held at Lyon's at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, with the burial at West Cemetery, Plymouth.
