Northfield - Mr. Anthony Joseph "Big Tony" Iovine, Sr., 83, resident of Northfield since 1961, passed away on Monday, March 09, 2015 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Elaine (Mactutis) Iovine.
Anthony was born on June 10,1931 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Pietro C. and Rose (Marotti) Iovine. Anthony served honorably and proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He owned and operated "Big Tonys Newsstand" in Torrington for over 26 years. He was an avid card player, enjoyed old movies, loved sports, especially baseball, and cherished the time he was able to spend with family and friends.
Besides his wife, Anthony is survived by his four sons, Peter, Anthony Jr., Richard, and Paul Iovine; his daughter, Laraine Iovine; his grand-daughter, Helena Percivalle and her husband Dave; three sisters, Marie "Wee-Wee" Basile, Florence Brasacchio and her husband Anthony, and Patricia Bidmead and her husband Joe Arena; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, John Iovine.
The family would like to thank the staff at Litchfield Woods in Torrington for the loving care given to Anthony.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial in St. Thomas Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made in Anthonys name is the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org
