Obituary

Mrs. Bertha A. Legendre Beloved Mother Northfield Bertha A. (Desrochers) Legendre 96, of Fenn Rd., died Monday March 9, 2009 at her home. She was the widow of Alphonse J. Legendre. Bertha was born March 2, 1913 in ManchesterNew Hampshire, daughter of the late Ernest and Clara (Pomerleau) Desrochers. She helped on her family farm and started the first school bus in the Northfield area. Bertha worked for many years at CenterSchool and Litchfield High School Cafeterias. In earlier years she loved to play the piano in the Tanguay Orchesta in Waterbury, and was a member of the Beacon Grange #118 of Northfield as well as a member of the Pomona Grange. She was also a member of St. Thomas Church of Thomaston. She is survived by a daughter, Maryanne Legendre of Northfield, a son, Theodore Legendre of Northfield, three brothers, Rheo Desrochers of Torrington, Andrew Desrochers of Thomaston, Roger Desrochers of Massachusetts, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Arrangements: A mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Church of Thomaston, Rev. William OKeefe officiating. A calling hour will be from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High StreetThomaston, CT06787. Burial will follow in St. ThomasCemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Torrington Hospice Team, 62 Commercial Blvd., Torrington, CT06790.
