Obituary

Blanche Lois (Tillson) Kwiatkoski, 89, passed away on June 28, 2025. She was born February 23, 1936 to Walter and Blanche Nearing (Gill) Tillson in Northfield, CT. Blanche, known as "Lois" to friends and family, lived in Northfield and the surrounding towns of Litchfield and Thomaston her whole life. She graduated from Litchfield High School with aspirations of becoming a home economics teacher, but life led her down another path, and she went on to work in various roles, including over 36 years as an inspector at the Torrington Company.

In addition to being a hard worker, Lois was a loving sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, step-grandmother, and a generous friend who would often come to visit with a loaf of freshly baked banana bread in her hands. She loved baking and gardening and was an active member of the Northfield Literary Club for over 70 years.

Her favorite pastimes included spending time with her family, watching soap operas and old Doris Day movies, and playing Rummikub or cards. She enjoyed watching and hearing the songs of birds and taking long drives in the countryside. Her simple, honest values, her fruit and vegetable canning skills, and her love for ice cream leave an enduring legacy with her family.

Lois's life story epitomized family love, kindness, and deep-rooted values. She prioritized family and friends, rarely forgetting a birthday or special milestone. She never gossiped or mocked others' misfortunes, but instead offered a helping hand. Though her parents had struggled through the Depression and she grew up during WWII, Lois was never focused on wealth. She was, nonetheless, a tireless worker, committed to providing for her family and lifting up others in need.

One of her most beautiful qualities was her quiet, steadfast nature, which brought a great sense of comfort and security—especially to her two daughters. The titles she held dearest—Mom, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend—were a source of her pride and joy. Her happiness was always shared. Her gentle, honest approach to life was both inspiring and infectious. She had an abundance of grace, love, and generosity, for which her family is eternally grateful and will always remember.

Lois is predeceased by her parents, sister Janice Wilson, and grandson Kyle Pelletier. She is survived by her sisters Carol Donlon of NY and Judy Monoskey of FL, as well as her two daughters and their families – Susan Pelletier (Thomaston) and her children, Daniel Pelletier (FL) and Chad Robinson (CT), and Deborah Osborn, her husband, Robert Osher (Litchfield/Cincinnati), and her children, Morgan Osborn (AZ), and Bradley Osborn, his wife, Jennifer Osborn, and their son, Elliot Osborn (CT). Lois is also survived by a large extended family by Robert Osher's five children and 12 grandchildren, Edward Osborn's two children and five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering to honor and celebrate Lois's life will be held on August 10, 2025, at the Northfield Cemetery, 14 Knife Shop Rd, Northfield, CT for friends and family. A small service will be at 10:00 a.m. with refreshments following at Northfield Fire House. Donations of perennial plants during the day of service are welcome to beautify the Northfield Cemetery, her final resting place.
