Middlefield – Bruce Edward Monahan, 86, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Complete Care of Meriden. He was the husband of Joan Monahan for 55 years.
Bruce was born in Proctor, Vermont on August 20, 1939, son of the late Leslie F. and Charlotte L. (Briggs) Monahan. They later moved to Thomaston where he spent much of his life. He joined the U.S. Navy at 17 and spent the next 4 years traveling the world on the Forrestal Aircraft Carrier. At that time, he was married to Patricia Wooten and had 4 children. Around 1970 they were divorced and he later married Joan Corves Phelps who had a son, Glenn that he later adopted.
When he was in the Navy, he learned to be a pipe fitter, which carried him the rest of his working life. He had excellent jobs at Pratt & Whitney and later was offered a job as a leader over the plumbers at Southern CT State University.
In his spare time, Bruce was always working around the house and yard, fixing and taking care of his cars.
Including his wife, Joan, Bruce is survived by his children, Kim Clark (Jerry), Glenn R. Monahan (Patty), Kelly Nodine (Calvin), and Daniel Monahan; his grandchildren, Troy Clark, Nicole Monahan Ogorek, Douglas Archer, Jeremy Archer, and Wesley Archer; and several great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, David Monahan.
A funeral home service will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston. Family and friends may gather from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston.
