Naugatuck - Carole H. Merritt, 67, loving wife of Walter J. Merritt passed away on Wednesday April 1, 2009 with friends and family at her bedside. Born on September 18, 1941, Carole was the daughter of the late Everett W. and Dorothy Ellen (Wooster) Harris of Plymouth. Carole spent her life caring for all who knew and needed her. She spent her last few years volunteering for the Friends of Homeless Animals. She is survived by her husband Walter J. Merrit, three sons, Richard Atherton of Waterbury, Kerry Atwood of Portland, ME, Brian Atwood of Naugatuck, two daughters, Joy Iffland of Torrington, Jodie Giesy of Bristolville, OH, three stepsons, Kyle Merritt of Danbury, Sean Merritt of Ft. Myers, FL, Brian Merritt of Pensacola, FL two step daughters, Dorinda Ballas of Oakland, NJ, Brenda Gilroy of New Fairfield, CT, a brother Gilbert Harris of Terryville, four sisters, Lynne Perugini of Thomaston, Lee Bouthot of Plymouth, Gaye Zukauskas of Wolcott, Lorri Bardell of Plymouth, twenty-six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol was predeceased by two sons, Robert L. Atherton, Brett A. Atwood and a sister, Gayle Harris. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 2:30 P.M. at the Eagle Rock Church of Thomaston. Burial will be private.
