Charlotte L. Monahan
Middletown -Charlotte L. (Briggs) Monahan, 93, of Wadsworth Glen Health Care, died Sunday, July 20, 2008. She last resided on Grove St. in Thomaston. Charlotte was the widow of Leslie Monahan.
Mrs. Monahan was born February 23, 1915 in Burlington, VT to the late, Egbert and Christine (Loomis). She worked for many years as a book keeper at Terryville Furniture then went on to Thomaston Motors where she retired from. She was also a well known dressmaker in town. Charlotte was very active in the community in earlier years, she was a Communicant of St. Thomas Church, and a member of the Northfield Beacon Grange, Charlotte was a member of the Thomaston Seniors and always organized the bus trips. She did everything, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and personalized Christmas stocking for everyone in her family. She was a traveler, always loved to take her grandchildren camping and played cards with them.
She leaves a son Bruce Monahan and his wife Joan of Middlefield, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Briggs and a sister, Emma Rivers.Arrangements: A Funeral will be held on Thursday directly at St. Thomas Church for a mass at 10:00 A.M. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston.
