Obituary

Thomaston Mrs. Claire H. (Eilertsen) Makl, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday evening, August 17, at her home. She was the widow of George N. Makl. Claire was born in Stamford on January 25, 1930, daughter of the late George and Veronica (Williams) Eilertsen. Claire attended Stamford schools. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a switchboard operator at C.O. Millers Department Store in Stamford. Claire was a busy homemaker and mother of four. Claire and George raised their family in Sandy Hook, then called Thomaston home for 30 years. Claire enjoyed reading, writing, crafts and decorating for all of the holidays. She was an active member of the Thomaston Ladies Choral Club, the Thomaston Senior Center and especially loved the Senior Writing Club. She was proud of being a published poet. But most of all, she treasured her family. Claire leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Debra Carrington and husband Bob of Northfield, Diane Aniki of Thomaston, David Makl and wife Debbie of Southbury, and Doree Lecaros and husband Cesar of Waterbury. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, George Aniki and wife Jami, Joseph Aniki and partner Sarah, Douglas Makl, Eva, Daniel and Milena Familia, great-granddaughter, Mary Lee Aniki, and her step-grandchildren, Tricia Cianci and Zandra Thompson. In addition to her husband, Claire was predeceased by her son-in-law, Jim Aniki, niece Linda Makl, beloved stepdad "Pop", all of her brother and sister in-laws and several cousins, especially John and Valerie. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Claires dedicated caregivers, Barbara and Georgette, for the love and compassion they showed Claire for the past several years. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 22, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 23, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thomaston Senior Center, Thomaston, CT.
