Darlene A. Peterson (Michitsch), 65, of Northfield, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 8th, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 14th, 1960, to William and Erika Michitsch of Thomaston, CT.
Darlene was an avid gardener, antiques collector, and tea aficionado. Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, she made every holiday and family event special with homemade food, thoughtful gifts, and fun activities. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her kindness, and her love for family and friends.
After Darlene’s diagnosis with Glioblastoma in 2024, she formed an annual charity event called “Gunning for Glioblastoma” – a sporting clays competition which raised $42,000 in its first year to help others suffering from similar illnesses. Despite the success of this event, Darlene considered her greatest achievements to be her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Erika Peterson of Bethlehem; son, Austin Peterson and his wife, Taylor of Bristol; and two grandsons, Wyatt and Cooper Peterson of Bristol. In addition, she is survived by her extended family in Germany. Darlene also leaves behind many who, though not related to her, regarded her as a mother and grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert W. Peterson III and her sister Denise M. Santoro.
A private burial will be held at a later date, followed by a celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the National Brain Tumor Society via Darlene’s event fundraising page: https://nbtsevents.braintumor.org/2026GunningforGBM. For more information about Darlene’s annual charity event, please visit gunning4glioblastoma.com.
