Obituary

Donald Elton Brown - 90, recently of Main Street died Monday June 21, 2010 at Emeritus Assisted Living in Torrington with his wife by his side. He has been the husband to Jeannette (Benedict) Brown since 1943. Donald was born in Thomaston on September 4, 1919 to the late Raymond N. and Mable (Mercer) Brown. He was a graduate of Thomaston High school and furthered his education at the University of Rhode Island, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration before he joined the US Army during the WWII era. Don received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Donald retired from Chase, Brass and Copper in 1982 as a manufacturing representative. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Plymouth for more than sixty years and was very dedicated to his faith. He was a 32nd degree master mason and was a member of the former Union Lodge #96 AF & AM in Thomaston, and a member of two mens choral groups, the Barnstormers and the Liederkranz. Donald enjoyed collecting clocks, had a love for golf, reading and was very devoted to his wife and family. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Connie J. Small and her husband Peter of Florida, and three sons, David N. Brown and his wife Mai of California, Christopher, D. Brown and his wife Denise of Stafford, CT, and Peter L. Brown and his wife Sherry of New York, eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Ells. Arrangements: A Calling Hour will be held Thursday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational church of Plymouth. A service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in West Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, 10 Park Street, Plymouth, CT 06782.
