Thomaston Donna E. (Hart) Sanford, 81, passed away on Friday, December 20, at Vitas Innovative Hospice at St. Marys Hospital. Donna was born January 30, 1943, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Donald B. and Leah (Chapman) Hart. Raised in Thomaston she attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. She then went on to the Bristol Hospital School of Nursing and began her 29-year career as an LPN at St. Marys Hospital. After retiring from nursing, she went back to school and received her masters degree in social work from Southern Connecticut State University. She then started her second career as a social worker in the Waterbury school system. She was a member of the former Eagle Rock Congregational Church and had served as a deacon. She is currently a member of the First Congregational Church of Thomaston. She had served as a scout master and supported her children in everything they did. She will be remembered for her love of animals, the New York Yankees and UConn womens basketball. She is survived by her children, Darryl S. Sanford and his wife Ellen of Thomaston, Deborrah L. Sanford and her spouse, Margaret McCreedy of Thomaston and David P. Sanford and his wife Tricia of Terryville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, William and Raymond. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, at 12:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Friends may visit with Donnas family from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be in the spring in Hillside Cemetery.
