THOMASTON -- Douglas C. Harlow, 87, of Thomaston, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Chernauskas) Harlow.
He was born April 13, 1922, in Claremont, N.H., son of the late George and Mildred (Chambers) Harlow. He grew up in West Lebanon, N.H., and graduated from West Lebanon High School, Plymouth State College and the University of New Hampshire. He served four years in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Iceland during World War II.
Douglas was principal of Grove Street School in Thomaston and was the first principal of the Thomaston Middle School before retiring in 1988. He was a lifelong Yankees fan, enjoyed hiking, tennis and UConn basketball.
Besides his wife of 36 years, he leaves his son, Michael Harlow, and his wife, Kathy, of Kennebunkport, Maine; his daughter, Lesley Harlow, her husband, Mitchell Siegel, of Commack, N.Y.; his son, Garret Harlow, his wife, Kara, of Goshen; and his adored grandchildren, Hayden, Anne and Grant Harlow, also of Goshen. He also leaves his nieces, Shelly and Sharman Renehan of West Lebanon, N.Y. He was predeceased by his sister, Marion Renehan.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the First Congregational Church, Main Street, Thomaston. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery immediately following. Calling hours are Monday, April 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston.
