THOMASTON Edwin F. Kalat, 75, of High Street, died peacefully at his home Friday, March 7, after a battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband to Kathleen (Callahan) Kalat.
Mr. Kalat was born October 10, 1932, in New Britain, son of the late Frank and Anastasia (Zaiko) Kalat. He attended college at St. Michaels College and Trinity College becoming a Chemist; he had worked for several companies including Risdon Manufacturing in Thomaston and also did private consulting. He was a published writer and belonged to the Thomaston writing group, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was a communicant of St. Thomas Church and was very active in the parish, having served on the Parish Council and many of the other organizations within the church. Edwin always watched the birds and cared for his gardens; he enjoyed writing music and played the violin. When he was younger he enjoyed coaching the Babe Ruth Little League of Thomaston.
Besides his wife Kathleen, he leaves two sons; Michael Kalat of Thomaston, Mark Kalat of Barre, VT, two daughters; Susan Graham of Thomaston, Patricia Fusco of Wyoming, six grandchildren and one nephew. He was predeceased by a sister Irene Rymsza.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 13 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of mass.
