Litchfield Eleanor L. (Buxbaum) Leigh-Berti, 88, passed away on Wednesday evening, August 28, at Brandywine Living of Litchfield, her home for the last four years. She was the widow of Louis R. Leigh, Jr. and Raymond Berti.
Eleanor was born February 27, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of the late William and Alice (Bibra) Buxbaum. The family moved to Ansonia when Eleanor was a child and then settled in Thomaston where she was raised. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. Before, during, and after raising her boys, Eleanor worked at local businesses including Seth Thomas, Plume & Atwood, and the Northfield General Store.
Throughout her life she enjoyed: hummingbirds, church choir, cross stitching, gardening and spending time with her family. Eleanor was a long time active member of the Womens Literary Club and loved making presentations to the group. Having played in high school, she was an avid basketball fan following UCONN, WNBA, and NBA alike.
Eleanor was a member of the former Episcopal Church in Northfield as well as the Nepaug Bible Church in New Hartford and was active in their social hours.
She is survived by her three sons, Louis R. Leigh III and his wife Linda of Northfield, Jeffrey W. Leigh and his wife Susan of Litchfield and Robert C. Leigh and his wife Laura of Northfield; four grandchildren, Jason Leigh and his wife Megan, Nathan Leigh and his wife Alethia, Rachel and Savannah Leigh; one great grandchild, Junia Leigh and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be held on Saturday, September 7, at 12:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Friends may visit with Eleanors family from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Committal prayers will be in the Northfield Cemetery followed by a gathering at the Northfield Fire House.
