Obituary

Mrs. Ellen Whalen THOMASTON Ellen (Monroe) Whalen, 81, of Kennedy Drive, died Monday, January 28, at Cook Willow Health Center in Plymouth. She was the widow to Melvin R. Whalen. Mrs. Whalen was born May 22, 1926 in Bristol, daughter to the late Florence (Audrews) and Floyd Edmond Monroe. She had a love for cooking, baking and having her family home for meals, she had to feed everyone. She spent time crocheting and sewing, and absolutely adored her husband, children and grandchildren. She leaves two sons; Larry Thomas and Alice of Torrington, James Melvin and Luann of Bristol, a daughter; Cynthia and Stephen BelFiore of Thomaston, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by many brothers and sisters, Floyd Monroe, Marjorie Knox, Kenneth Monroe, Rolene Cook, Gladys Finkle, Donald Monroe, Jesse Monroe and Milton Monroe. Arrangements: Everyone is asked to gather at 9:30 am Thursday, for a service at 10:00 am. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston.. Calling Hours will be today from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Watertown.
