Thomaston - Emil Edward Gavenas, 90, of Humiston Circle., died after a brief illness, September 30, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife of over fifty years, Julia (Plekan) Gavenas.
He served for the US Army Artillery during WWII and was stationed in the South West Pacific. After his service, he was a machinist and worked for Halden Machine for over thirty years. As a Thomaston resident for over fifty years, Mr. Gavenas was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Thomaston Historical Society and Saint Peters Trinity Church. He will be remembered by many for his beautiful gardens, love of dancing the polka and woodworking skills.
He is survived by two sons, Emil R. Gavenas and his wife Martha of Washington, CT, Robert Gavenas and his wife Jamie of Carson, WA, four grandchildren, Michael Gavenas and his wife Abby, Susanne Gavenas and her husband Matt, Nicholas and Anastasia, three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Sabrina, William, several nieces and nephews, a sister Emma Voit, sister-in-laws, Helen, Julie and Eleanor Plekan. Arrangements: Friends and family are asked to gather at the Lyons Funeral Home Saturday, at 9:15 A.M. to arrive at St. Peter Trinity Church for a funeral service at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston. Calling hours will be today from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Lyons Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
