Obituary

Thomaston- Mrs. Frances (Lavigne) Smith, 83, of Watertown Rd. died Sunday, December 16 at her home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond C. Smith. Mrs. Smith was born July 27, 1924 in Manchester, New Hampshire, daughter of the late William and Antoinette (Hebert) Lavigne. She attended Our Lady of Grace Academy in Manchester. She had served as a pharmacist mate 3rd class in the Navy WAVES from 1945 - 1947. Mrs. Smith settled in Thomaston with her husband and owned and operated Rays Clam Box in Thomaston and Hamps Restaurant in Bristol for many years. She loved to read, putter in the garden and dance and play with her grandchildren especially her granddaughter Sarah. She is survived by one son, Gary Smith and his wife Barbara of Thomaston; two daughters, Denise Brammer and her husband Clifford of Thomaston and Nancy Zabel and her husband Harry of Upper Lake, CA; She was predeceased by a granddaughter Beth Brammer and leaves three grandsons, Clifford Brammer, Jeremy Zabel and Brian Zabel and one granddaughter, Sarah Smith; six great grandchildren, Nathan and Cameron Brammer, Hayden, Keirra, MacKayla and Tanner Zabel; one sister, Jacqueline Chapman and her husband Russell and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Jeanette Lavigne and a brother Norman Lavigne. Arrangements: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 18 at 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Calling hours are from 5:00 P.M. until time of service. Burial will be private in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Beth Brammer Scholarship Fund C/O on the Thomaston Savings Bank 203 Main St. Thomaston, CT 06787.
