Frank W. Morton Sr.
Thomaston Frank W. Morton Sr., 90, formerly of Green Manor, died Sunday May 31, 2009, at Cook Willow Health Care. He was the widower to Jean Elizabeth (North) Morton. Frank was born on September 9, 1918 in Thomaston, to the late Frank Burns and Lena (Bodendorf) Morton. Frank served our country during WWII. He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1943 until 1946 in the European Theater. He was the forward observer in the 44th infantry, became active Captain and was reported to be M.I.A. seventeen times as he crossed enemy lines regularly. He fought in France and Germany across the Rhine and helped take Frankfurt and Heidelburg. His decoration and service medals list the EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. In earlier years Frank was an owner of D & M Trucking of Thomaston with his best friend Ralph Davis. He then went to work for the Furniture Barn where he retired from, he then worked as a handy man at the Green Manor where he lived. He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and woodworking.
Frank is survived by two sons, Frank W. "Bill" Jr. and his wife Gail Morton of Terryville, Robert Keith and his wife Jean Morton of Thomaston, two daughters, Kim LaChance of Bristol, Lori and her husband Tim Vigeant of Thomaston, a brother, Harold Morton of Thomaston, eight grandchildren, Lisa Morton McCoy and her husband Eric of Plymouth, Frank W. Morton III and his wife Johanna of Harwinton, Craig W. Morton and his wife Cheryl of Thomaston, Robert J. Morton and his wife Becky of Thomaston, Sarah Morton of Thomaston, John M. LaChance and his wife Jennifer of New Jersey, Amy LaChance and companion Jay Marino of Canton, Patricia Vigeant of Thomaston, seven great grandchildren, Noah, Jamie, Jenna, Jake, Emily, Kyle and Zachary. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia (Pam) Morton and a sister Jane Oliver. Arrangements: A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 3:00 P.M. at the Covenant Church of Thomaston. Burial will be private. Lyons Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. In lieu of Flowers a memorial contribution may be made payable to Jean Morton, c/o Thomaston Savings Bank, 203 Main St. Thomaston, CT 06787. Proceeds will be going towards the Mortons Handicap Fishing Derby.
