Frederick N. Foster, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on February 28, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
Born in Glendale, California, on September 17, 1937, Fred moved to Connecticut and graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury. After graduation he enrolled in the Marine Corps, where he proudly served alongside his brother Robert, an experience he regarded as one of his proudest accomplishments.
Fred was a man of immense work ethic and community pride. He built a 30-year career as a Precision Grinder at Somers Thin Strip in Waterbury, served as an Auxiliary State Trooper with Troop L in Litchfield and as a volunteer with the Thomaston Fire Department.
An avid fan of Thomaston High School Athletics, Fred was a constant champion for the "Golden Bears", attending high school sporting events for decades, even long after his own children had graduated. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life: coffee with the guys, fishing, camping, drum corps, and had a profound appreciation for food, particularly Italian cuisine..
He is survived by his children: Randall C. Foster (MaryBeth), John "Jack" L. Foster (Jen), Jamie Walsh, Robert H. Foster, Stephanie H. Finkbiner (Rodney), and Frederick G. Foster. He was the proud grandfather of Sage, Griffin, Sarah, Miles, Hannah, Amelia and Booker. He also leaves behind his brother, William Foster of Plainville; his sisters, Carol Chase of South Carolina and Lois Innes of Harwinton; and his former wife, Betsy Humiston of Thomaston. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sharon (Kowalski) Foster, his brother, Robert Foster, of Thomaston and his parents, Clarence and Ethel Foster of Thomaston.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St, Thomaston. A brief service will follow the visitation at 7:00 PM. Burial with full Military Honors will be held in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frederick’s memory to the Thomaston Fire Department or the THS Golden Bears Booster Club.
Notes of comfort may be shared on Frederick’s tribute page at www.Lyonsfuneralhome.com.
