Obituary

Terryville Helen E. (Brown) Tomasello, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, June 23, at her home, with her daughter at her side. Helen was born October 10, 1949, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Edgar and Gertrude (Wagner) Brown, and sister of the late Claudia (Brown) Weber. Raised in Plymouth, she attended local schools and was a graduate of Terryville High School. Helen went on to earn her BA degree in history from Central Connecticut State University, and later was very proud to earn her Masters Degree in Theology from the Hartford Seminary, which she did while she worked two jobs, full time. Helen was a devoted teacher and worked for many years at the Learning Center in Terryville. There she made a difference in the lives of the many children she taught, as well as her coworkers many with whom she shared wonderful friendships. Helen was extraordinarily devoted to and supportive of all of her friends, and she cherished these relationships throughout her life. Helens faith was strong, and her spirituality was one of the most important parts of her life. She was a very active, lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Plymouth, where she worked a second job as the Churchs secretary for many years, as well as singing in the choir. She participated in countless aspects of church life and fellowship, and one of the most important was serving in pulpit supply, preaching at her own church and other congregations on many occasions over the years. Helen wrote and delivered thoughtful and poignant sermons, and has been a source of inspiration to many in their spiritual journeys. Above all, Helen was a loving mother, who was very proud of her daughter and encouraged, supported, and loved her in every way possible, in everything she did. She was always there for her, and her family who she loved very much.Helen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Brown Tomasello of Arlington, VA; her brother-in-law, Karl Weber of Thomaston and her nephew, Matthew Karl Weber and his wife Elizabeth Belbruno Weber of Manchester. She was intelligent, kind, spiritual, and compassionate - a light to all who knew her - and she will be greatly missed, especially by her daughter. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 27, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Funeral services will be held on Friday, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Plymouth. Burial will follow in West Cemetery.
