Thomaston
Hilda Marie (Faff) Berg, 97, of High Street, died at Cook Willow Health Center in Plymouth, Friday April 4th. She was the widow of Anton Berg.
Mrs. Berg was born December 5, 1910 in Zelienople, PA, daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Leonhart) Faff.
She met her husband Anton at a German Club Dance in Detroit, Michigan, and they moved to Plymouth in 1941, then to Thomaston in 1942. She was the meticulous Secretary of their family business, Berg Carbide Die Company Inc., in Thomaston, for 41 years. Hilda was also very active in the community. She loved music and was a beloved Charter Member of the Thomaston Ladies Choral Club where she sang until age 94. Many recall receiving encouraging cards and letters from Hilda, for she served as Corresponding Secretary of the Club for many years. Additionally, she was a devoted member of the Thomaston Seniors, the Thomaston Historical Society, First Congregational Church of Thomaston, and their Choir for 60 years and the Womens Fellowship. Hilda also enjoyed cooking and working in her garden at home, where she lived happily for 66 years.
Above all, Hilda is remembered as the heart of her family. She prayed daily for her children and their families and was a steadfast correspondent with friends and family near and far. She is survived by son William Berg of Thomaston, son James Berg of Westwood Hills, Kansas, and daughter Elizabeth Berg of New York City, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Richard Berg, her brother, William Faff and her sister Eleanor Cosover.
Arrangements: A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:45 A.M. at HillsideCemetery in Thomaston.The memorial Service will be at 11:30 A.M. at the First Congregational Church. Calling Hours will be Friday at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the following: Book of Remembrance First Congregational Church of Thomaston, 135 Main Street, Thomaston Opera House, 158 Main Street, or VITAS Hospice of Middlebury, 1579 Straits Tpke.
