Thomaston – James Walter Bothroyd, 93, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026. He was the loving husband of Beatrice (Kentana) Bothroyd for 50 years.
James was born in Thomaston on June 21, 1932, son of James Earl and Virginia (Haney) Bothroyd. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He ran Jimmie’s Fuel Service in Thomaston for many years before moving onto O&G in Torrington until his retirement. He was an avid horseback rider, motorcycle enthusiast, and UConn Women’s basketball fan. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida for over 30 years. Most of all, Jimmy was proud of his family, which he loved dearly.
Including his wife, Beatrice, James is survived by his children, James R. Bothroyd and his wife Michelle and their children James N. and Willow Bothroyd; Robert Curtiss, his wife, Kathy, and their daughter, Kourtney; Debbie Martinelli, and her children, Brandon, Daniel, Halie, Laura, and Jordon; and Jimmer Curtiss, his wife, Corky, and their children, Alexandra, Ashlie, and Jacob; his 11 great grandchildren, with one on the way; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Nancy, Scott, and Robert.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston, with a service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Covenant Church, 64 Grove Street. Burial with a Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring to be announced.
