Obituary

James F. Grenier Sr.- 85, of Leigh Ave., died Sunday December 6, 2009 at his home with his wife by his side. He was the husband to Ada (Rowlison) Grenier. James was born in Waterbury to the late James and Mary (Meade) Grenier on August 28, 1924. He was proud to serve his country as a WWII Veteran with the U.S. Navy. James worked for many years as a butcher in numerous local grocery stores and retired in 1989 from A&P Grocery. He loved playing cards, watching the Red Sox, playing horseshoes, enjoyed shopping and in his earlier years was a great bowler. Spending time with his family brought the most enjoyment to his life. James was a member of St. Thomas Church of Thomaston, and was the last charter member of VFW Post 5157 in Watertown. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, James F. Grenier Jr. of Thomaston, John A. Grenier of Terryville, Joseph T. Grenier of Thomaston, a daughter Mrs. Jacqueline Rossi of Wolcott, a sister Margaret Contois of Watertown, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Judith M. Valentine, a brother, William T. Grenier and two sisters, Maureen Bussell and Janice Grenier. Arrangements: Calling Hours will be held Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10:00 A.M., St. Thomas Church, Thomaston. Burial will be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomaston Food Pantry P.O. Box 342, Thomaston, CT 06787.
