THOMASTON -- James J. Sutton, a Waterbury native, died Sunday, May 18, at his home. He was 79.
Jim was born January 7, 1935, in Waterbury, son of the late William and Margaret (Kelly) Sutton. He attended Waterbury schools and graduated from Leavenworth High School. He knew the neighborhoods and history of Waterbury well, survived the Flood of 1955, and spent his career as a manufacturing engineer in the citys brass factories, including Scovill Manufacturing and Century Brass. He moved to Thomaston after his retirement, where he was known and loved in his neighborhood for his wit and his willingness to lend a hand wherever needed.
Jim was predeceased by his brother, William, and his sister, Mary. He is survived by his daughters, Eileen Lee of Herndon, Virginia, and Andrea Sutton and her husband Antonio Mendes, of Prospect, and grandchildren Emory and Fordham Lee and Timothy and Margot Mendes, as well as his nephew, William Macary, of Wolcott.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston, followed immediately by a memorial service in his honor. Burial will be at the familys convenience in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
