Bristol, formerly of Thomaston – James "Jimmy" M. Whalen, 75, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Luann (Gallo) Whalen, for 53 years.
James was born in Torrington on June 20, 1950, son of the late Melvin and Ellen (Monroe) Whalen. Being drafted after high school, Jimmy served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Town of Thomaston. Jimmy was an avid hunter and fisherman, but what he cared about most was his family.
Including his beloved wife, Luann, Jimmy will be remembered by his cherished daughter, Tammy Thomas, of Newtown; his treasured grandchildren, Bryttnie Olsen, and her husband, Gabe; and Makenzie Thomas; his adored great-granddaughter, Seyla; his brother, Larry Whalen, and his wife, Alice; and many important nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jimmy was predeceased by his sister, Cynthia Belfiore.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston. A prayer service with military honors will be held at 7:00 p.m.
