Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother

Joan C. Francis, 89, of Thomaston died Thursday, July 31, 2025 at The Cottages at Litchfield Hills Memory Care facility in Torrington. She was the widow of Richard F. Francis.

Mrs. Francis was born July 1,1936 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Jeremiah & Mary Sullivan. She is also predeceased by a sister Elizabeth Caron and a brother Geoffrey Sullivan.

Joan enjoyed spending quality time with both of her grandchildren throughout the years. She also enjoyed taking rides with her husband along the coastline of Connecticut and Maine where they vacationed for many years. She loved fish meals at Lenny & Joes and bingo at Foxwoods, but mostly, she loved her family best!

She is survived by her daughter Deborah Bournival and her husband Mark of Torrington. She leaves two grandchildren, Jennifer Bournival and Andrew Bournival, both of Thomaston along with many nieces and a nephew.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the Thomaston Social Services Crisis Fund, Thomaston Town Hall, 158 Main Street, Thomaston or to the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County, 32 Union Street, Winsted.
