Obituary

Thomaston- Mr. Joffre "Bob" Bazin, 92, of Pleasant St., died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Sheridan Woods in Bristol after a brief illness. Bob was born in New Jersey and raised in New York. He joined the Merchant Marine during World War II and received his discharge from the U.S. Coast Guard. After living in Woodmont, CT for over two decades the family moved to Thomaston in 1972. His interests included social and political activism as well as civil and human rights. These drew him to membership in the Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist Society of Woodbury, where he served in several leadership capacities, including Trustee, Religious Education and Mens Group. His hobbies included stamps, reading science fiction and many magazines such as Astronomy, Railroads, Sky and Telescope. The family loved vacations at Nags Head, North Carolina. He is survived by his wife, Elisabeth (Kurdeka) Bazin, his daughters and their husbands, Margot and John Mundy of Arkansas, Carla and David Leathers of Burlington and Tinah and Charles Quintana of Oregon. His grandchildren and their spouses are Jonah and Rachel Jackson of Texas, Jarret Kilinski of Oregon, Ben Kilinski of Brooklyn and Jose and Stacy Villarrubia of Arkansas. His great-grandchildren are Fiona Kilinski of Oregon, Davis and Audrey Jackson of Texas and Lily Grace Villarrubia of Arkansas.
