Obituary

Mr. John McAdam, 83, died Saturday, January 31, 2009, of injuries resulting from a car accident. He was the husband of Barbara (Fox) McAdam. Buddy was born in Torrington on January 12, 1926, son of the late Elizabeth (Kovacs) and Edgar McAdam. While a senior in high school, he was drafted into the United States Navy and served as a tail gunner in a PBM sea plane in the Pacific during WWII. He was granted his high school diploma and, after the war, graduated from Bryant College on the GI bill. He and Barbara were married and spent 58 years together. They enjoyed traveling and camping with their children, grandchildren, and friends. Buddy worked at the Waterbury Rolling Mills and retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Education. He was active in the First Congregational Church of Thomaston and helped in the restoration of the Seth Thomas-Bradstreet House. In addition to his wife, Buddy leaves his children, Dianne Voluckas and her husband Donald of Northfield, and Gary McAdam and his wife Sharon of Thomaston; his grandchildren, Mark and Amy Voluckas of Northfield, and Emily and Allison McAdam of Thomaston; his brother, George McAdam and his wife Madelyn of Thomaston; his brothers-in-law, Robert Fox and his wife Jackie of Litchfield, and Walter Fox and his wife Dorothy of Inverness, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Manning of Enfield. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7 at 11:30 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston. Burial will be in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High Street Thomaston.
