Joseph Peter Darasz- 84, of Pine Hill Rd, died Saturday, February 27, 2010. He was the devote husband to Marion (Krayeski) for 61 years.
Joseph was born in Thompson, CT to the late Peter and Mary (Potoczny) on June 21, 1925. He was a graduate of Thomaston High School and went on to serve in the Army Air Corp during WWII Attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. Joe was a B-17 flying fortress gunnery instructor and gunner with the 92nd bomb group, 8th Air Force stationed in England. He received the Air Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Theater Medal, Victory Medal and Presidential unit citation. Returning from service he was employed by Talley Industries for thirty seven years in various positions in the computer data processing field. He retired as the Computer Department Manager located in Thomaston during 1983, while overseeing many locations. Joseph was a former member of the Data Processing Management Association and the Thomaston Rod and Gun club, a member of the American Legion, Post 22 of Thomaston and retired Honorary member of the Thomaston Fire Department and member of St. Thomas Church of Thomaston. Joe will be greatly missed as he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
Besides is wife Marion, he survived by two daughters, Margaret Hadzima and her husband Joseph, of Wellesley, Massachusetts, Noreen Cerruto and husband Paul of New Hartford, CT , three grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jeffrey Hadzima, Ann Cerruto, and several nieces and nephews. Joeseph was predeceased by a brother Walter and a sister Stacia Puzacke.
Arrangements: Family and friends are welcome to gather Wednesday, for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church of Thomaston, burial will be in the spring at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made, in his memory to: The VNA Northwest 606 Bantam Rd, Unit F, Bantam, CT 06750 or the Thomaston Volunteer Fire Department, South Main Street Thomaston, CT 06787.
