Thomaston- Mr. Joseph M. Kelley, 81, died Tuesday, October 27, at St. Marys Hospital in Waterbury. He was the husband of Maria (Witte) Kelley. Mr. Kelley was born September 27, 1928 in Waterbury son of the late John V. and Margaret (Kennedy) Kelley. Raised in Waterbury and Wolcott, he attended Saints Peter and Paul Grammar School and Crosby High School. He began his career as a Tool Designer with the Farrell Foundry and then worked for several manufacturing companies over the years. He then went on to work as a security guard, retiring from Quinnipiac University. Mr. Kelley served honorably in the United States Air Force, receiving the Japan Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Water-Oak VFW Post # 5157. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, John H. Kelley and Mathew J. Kelley both of Thomaston; three daughters, Alice D. Leonard of Torrington, Margaret K. Witecy and Hedy M. Kelley both of Thomaston; two sisters, Margaret Lynch of Waterbury and Nancy Casaly of FL; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers, Jack, James and Francis; one sister, Charlotte Gallagher and one granddaughter Kimberley A. Piercy. Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30, at 10:00 A.M. at the Terryville Congregational Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
