Northfield - Julia Margaret (DaMotta) Petke, 77, passed away on May 5, 2013 after a long Illness. She was born in Hartford and lived in Northfield for the last 49 years. Julia is survived by her husband, Raymond Petke of Northfield and her children, Glenn Petke of Stoneville, NC; Sue Ellen Angell of Northfield; Dorothy Johnson of Reno, NV; Raymond Petke of Charlestown, NH; Nicki Remeika of Cromwell; and Kristi Rollins of Harwinton; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, James Petke and brother, Nicholas Parente. Julia worked in Hartford for the Phoenix Fire Insurance and Travelers Insurance before having her family. She was a stay-at-home Mom for many years, to be with her children. She was a past member of the League of Women Voters and, while her children were growing up, she was a Girl Scout Leader and PTA member. She could always be counted on to chaperone a school trip, bring baked goods to school gatherings or organize a party. Then she returned to work at Torrington Special Products until retirement, and part-time at Ames Department Store after that. After retiring, she spent her time traveling with her husband, reading and enjoying her grandchildren. Julia loved her flowers and her animals, and could always be found with her cat and dog by her side. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday evening, May 7, at 7:30 P.M., at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at 11:00 A.M. at Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be made in Julias name to the VNA Northwest INC., 607 Bantam Rd., Unit F, Bantam, CT 06750 or to the Northfield Fire Department, 12 Knife Shop Rd, Litchfield, CT 06759.
