Obituary

Thomaston Mrs. Julianna (Crocetto) Alessio, 92, of Thomaston, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Daniel Alessio for the past 69 years. Julianna was born on June 8, 1927 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Domenic and Carmela (Aufiero) Crocetto. Julianna was a bookkeeper for many local companies and was also a journalist for the Newton Bee for a number of years. She was an avid artist, and loved music, singing, movies, and the Boston Red Sox. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her loving family and friends. Julianna was also a proud founding member of the Waterbury Civic Theatre, an organization she was very active in over the years. She also enjoyed traveling to other US states and to Europe. Besides her husband Daniel, Julianna is survived by her children, Joanie Eykelhoff and her husband Richard of Thomaston, Janet Alessio also of Thomaston, and James Alessio of Torrington; grandchildren Justin Eykelhoff and his wife Catie, Andrew Eykelhoff and his wife Gail, and Natalie Gelada and her husband Francis, and Thomas Carroll; two great-grandchildren, Marshall and Dean; two sisters, Loretta Calabrese of Southbury, and Jeanette Crocetto of Waterbury; and her sister-in-law Jean Crocetto of Wolcott. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Sonny, Anthony, and Francis Crocetto, and Angie (Dolly) Gagain-Rosato. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St Thomas Church (St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish) 1 E. Main St. Burial in Hillside Cemetery will be held in the spring.
