Ludwig "Babe" Osowiecki went home to the Lord on Friday, December 28, 2007. Born on April 7, 1946 and raised in Thomaston, CT, Ludwig was a graduate of Thomaston High School, Class of 1964. Babe attended Paul Smith College in New York and went on to work for the U.S. Forest Service in Connecticut. He drove to Alaska for a vacation in 1970 and stayed for 16 years. He worked at the Sportsmans Lodge on the Russian River where he met his wife. After coming to know Christ as his personal Savior, he became a member of the Kenai Lake Baptist Church in Cooper Landing, Alaska. He married Janice Loewecke on September 22nd 1972. After working for the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska, Babe was a Construction Administrator for the Kenai Penninsula School Borough. A dedicated and generous member of the community, he served as a Deacon of Kenai Lake Baptist Church, an EMT on the local Volunteer Ambulance, and served a term of President of the Cooper Landing Community Club.
He and his family returned to Thomaston, CT in 1986 where he worked for Henry M Osowiecki and Sons. Babe was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, hunting and fishing but his greatest pleasure was sharing these activities with family and friends. Most recently he ran a seasonal campground in Alaska, participated in the One-Armed Dove Hunt in Olney, TX, hunted in CO and MT and enjoyed making maple syrup in Connecticut.
Known for his kindness, patience and sense of humor, Babe never passed an opportunity to help anyone in need. As a result, he has many close friends from Alaska to Connecticut.
His parents Henry Sr. and Lilian Osowiecki preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice Osowiecki, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Elizabeth Loewecke, Atlanta, GA; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Betsy Osowiecki, Thomaston, CT; daughter Beth Osowiecki, Thomaston, CT; son Jonathan Osowiecki, Thomaston, CT; his three grandchildren Kristopher Loewecke, Katrina Loewecke and Samuel Osowiecki; one sister Rebecca Osowiecki, San Jose, CA; three brothers, Henry M Osowiecki Jr., Thomaston, CT; James M Osowiecki, Bantam, CT; and Greg Osowiecki Sr., Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are today Sunday, December 30th from 3 - 7 pm at Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
