Cincinnati, Ohio- Mrs. Mary Beth Thomas-Butterfield, 62 died Wednesday, October 3 with her husband Dr. Spencer Butterfield.
Mary Beth was born October 4, 1944 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Edward G. and Mary V. (Mochak) Landers. Raised in Thomaston she attended local schools and had received her bachelors and masters degrees in nursing. She had been employed as assistant vice-president for quality improvement at Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center. She was passionate about quality issues in health care.
Mary Beth was a beautiful, energetic, accomplished and loving person. She was a fantastic cook and loved gardening, traveling, spending time with her family and doting on her precious grandchildren. She suffered the untimely death of her first husband, Seth R. Thomas, II, originally of Thomaston; and then she met and made a wonderful new life with her second husband, Dr. Spencer L. Butterfield, whom her children and grandchildren loved dearly. Together they built their dream house and spoiled their two cats, Frankie and Johnnie. Mary Beth and Spencer will be missed more than words could ever express.
She is survived by two sons, Seth R. Thomas III and his wife Jennifer of Maryland and Michael S. Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Rebecca L. Thomas and her husband Christopher Pon of Columbus, Ohio and Sara T. Papa and her husband Gerard of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Kathleen Duffany of Thomaston, Claire Hibbs-Cusson of West Hartford and Jennifer Schlesser of Elicott City, MD; five grandchildren, Christina, Joseph and Lucy Papa and Aaron and Annie Thomas and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Landers.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 10:00 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Burial is in Hillside Cemetery.
