THOMASTON- Michael David Samela, 21, of Randolph Ave. died Thursday, April 16, at St. Marys Hospital in the loving arms of his family. He was the son of Donald and Margaret (Volovski) Samela. Michael enjoyed vacationing on Marthas Vineyard, golfing, fishing, camping, the Red Sox and had an avid interest in music. He especially loved spending time with his family, and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Michael was born May 20, 1987 in Waterbury. He grew up and was educated in Watertown before moving to Thomaston with his family and attended Thomaston High School. He was very athletic, participating in soccer, baseball, and ice hockey. While at Watertown High School, he was a member of the golf and ice hockey teams. Michael was a creative young man with a strong sense of adventure and curiosity. He was a loving and sensitive son and a spirited younger brother with sense of humor.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Anthony Joseph Samela of Thomaston, his sister, Jennifer Anne Samela of Thomaston, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothea (Slason) Volovski and paternal grandparents, Anthony and Verna (Susarchick) Samela.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held, Monday morning, April 19th, from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street Thomaston. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church of Thomaston. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery of Thomaston.
