Litchfield - Mr. Arthur Christensen, 93, passed away peacefully Friday May 1, 2015 at Brandywine Assisted Living in Litchfield. He was the husband of the late Janet (Erickson) Christensen.
Arthur was born on June 1, 1921 in Montana, son of the late Hans and Berta (Nilsson) Christensen. His mother was a survivor of the Titanic, a story which he was very proud of. Arthur grew up in Chicago and attended local schools. He served honorably in the United States Army during WWII. After the war, Arthur worked for the Hamilton Beach Co. where he invented the Electric Carving Knife, awarded a number of patents and was in charge of building their first factory in post-war Japan. Arthur also was an avid fisherman and camper.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jan Steinbach of Park City, UT, Sandra Owen and Patricia Schnell of St. Charles, IL, William McCrum of Eagle River, WI, Raymond McCrum of Algonquin, IL; cousin, Mary Christensen of California; and many other cousins throughout the United States and Sweden.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 134 Main St. Terryville. Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston.
