Obituary

Thomaston - Mr. Arthur I. Nelson, 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, at the Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Rebecca (Chipman) Nelson. Mr. Nelson was born February 15, 1934 in Thomaston, son of the late Joel and Signe (Pierson) Nelson. A lifelong resident of Thomaston he had attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. He had attended the North Park College in Chicago and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Western Connecticut State University. He began his teaching career at Edgewood school in Bristol and remained there for his entire 30 year career, retiring in 1990. He had served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War with the military police stationed in West Germany. He was a member of the Stag Club, was a life member of the Thomaston Fish and Game Club and was a member of the Covenant Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Kristofer A. Nelson and his wife Angela of Thomaston; his grandson, Jacob Ryan Nelson of Thomaston; his brother, Edmund Nelson and his wife Alice of Thomaston; his sister, Grace Dayton of Thomaston and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Elsie Eckert. Arrangements: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00 A.M. at the Covenant Church 64 Grove St. in Thomaston. Burial will be in the spring in Hillside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps 237 South Main St. Thomaston, CT 06787.
