Northfield - Charles 'Charlie' E. Stevens, 86, died Monday, April 18, at the Waterbury Hospital. He was born February 28, 1925, the son of the late Lillian (Tomlinson) and Louis Stevens. Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, his three brothers, Robert, Steve and Fred and his sister, Ruth Fisher. Charlie is survived by his children, James Stevens of Pleasant Valley and Linda Stevens Moore of Phoenix, Arizona and his grandchildren, James, Sara and Aaron and great grandson, Evan. Charlie grew up in the Waterville section of Waterbury and attended Sprague School and Crosby High School. He joined the Navy on November 6, 1942 and was discharged on February 9, 1946. On July 13, 1946 he married Evelyn M. Wilks. Charlie and Evelyn lived in the village of Northfield where he was a self employed painting contractor. He was a member of several community organizations including the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department.
