Obituary

Thomaston Mr. Donald G. Rainville, 90, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 9, at Valerie Manor in Torrington. He was the husband of the late Marlene A. (Plante) Rainville for 57 years. Don was born June 28, 1933, in Holyoke, MA, son of the late George and Alice (Benoit) Rainville. Raised in Holyoke, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School. After beginning his career in sales in Massachusetts, for 34 years Don was a salesman for Canada Dry in Torrington, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge BPOE #372, a lifelong member of the Thomaston Fish & Game Club and devoted member of the St. Thomas Parish; Don will be remembered by many as Striper Don who was an avid outdoorsman, the Canada Dry Man for the many soda donations provided to local community events, his love for sports especially UConn Basketball and Red Sox, cooking, most famous for his homemade beef jerky, and enjoying a nice cold beverage at the Thomaston Fish & Game Club with his friends. He is survived by two sons, Bruce G. Rainville and his wife Sherrie of Portsmouth, VA and Bryan D. Rainville and his wife Michele of Thomaston; his daughter, Denise A. Rainville of Thomaston and friend Ken Stuka; four grandchildren, John, Anna, Jillian and Brent; five great-grandchildren with two more on the way; several nieces and nephews and their families. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Valerie Manor for the loving care and kindness provided to Don during his stay. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, January 12, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dons name to St. Thomas Church, 19 Electric Ave, Thomaston, CT 06787 or to the Thomaston Fish & Game Club, 730 Old Northfield Rd, Thomaston, CT 06787.
