Thomaston- Mr. Donald J. Sanford, 77, died Saturday morning, July 7, at the Waterbury Hospital. Mr. Sanford was born January 20, 1935 in Waterbury son of the late Dayton G. and Madonna (Gallagher) Sanford. Raised in Thomaston he attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School class of 1953. He had served honorably in the United States Army; he was stationed in Germany and traveled extensively throughout Europe. After his discharge from the military he went to work for Pratt and Whitney, retiring in 1991. After retiring Donald became the primary care giver for his mother. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening and was an avid New York Yankee fan. Donald was an active parishioner of St. Thomas Church where he freely volunteered his time. He is survived by his two brothers, Kirk Sanford and James A. Serenson, both of Thomaston; his sister, Gail Siemiatkoski of Thomaston and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Gary Sanford and his sister, Ellen Holdridge. Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 10, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Calling hours are Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
