Obituary

Dubois, Wyoming- Mr. Glenford Perry "Red" Root Jr, 67, formerly of Thomaston, died Monday, June 20, in Wyoming. Red was born April 5, 1944 in Waterbury son of the late Glenford P. and Frances May (Sanford) Root Sr. Red was raised in Thomaston, attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School, class of 1962, where he led the Thomaston Golden Bears boys basketball team to an undefeated season culminating with the class S state championship. He had served honorably in the United States Navy with the Seabees during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a lineman for CL&P and was the founder of Ramco Recovery in Thomaston and will be remembered as an avid fisherman. He is survived by two sons, Glen Richard Root and his wife Cathy of FL and Jonathan R. Root and his wife Jessica of Guilford; three daughters, Amy Stetson and her husband Brian of NY, Tia de Man and her husband Michiel of the Netherlands and Tricia Sanders and her husband Tim of NY; two brothers, James Root and his wife Mary and William Root and his wife Kelly Marie all of Torrington; one sister, Ruth Ann Stone and her husband Harry of Thomaston; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 12 Noon at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High Street Thomaston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Memorial contribution may be made to the Thomaston High School Boys Basketball Team C/O Bill Ryan, Director of Athletics, Thomaston High School 185 Branch Road Thomaston, CT 06787.
