Magnolia, DE- Mr. Harold Irving Morton, 94, formerly of Thomaston, died on Tuesday, May 20, at the home of his step-granddaughter. He was happily married to Alice Miller on March 7, 1970 until her death in August of 1984.
Mr. Morton was born to the late Frank and Lena Morton on December 2, 1919. In February of 1946 he was honorably discharged from Company H 14th infantry regiment of the United States Army as a staff sergeant. He had served as a heavy mortar crewman and expert rifle sharpshooter. He received several decorations and citations, including the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
He was lovingly known as Bud to his family and many friends. He retired from the Precise Power Systems of Tech Systems Corporation in Thomaston. He had a love for history, especially military history and he was an expert in his knowledge of fire arms.
He was an artist and often expressed his creativity working with wood. He was a great Boston Red Sox fan. His greatest love and passion however was having a part for more than 50 years in sponsoring the annual June fishing derby for the handicapped held at Mortons Pond in Thomaston.
He is survived by his step-son, Edward Miller and his wife Lillian; Kenneth Hall, the husband of his late step-daughter Marjorie Hall and several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
Arrangements: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 1:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Committal and military honors will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
