Bristol- Mr. Henry Arthur Strever, 92, formerly of Plymouth, died Thursday, January 10, at the Bristol Hospital. He was the husband for 40 years of the late Nancy (Alway) Strever and the late Rita (Cleveland) Strever for six years.
Mr. Strever was born November 2, 1920 in Ansonia, son of the late Stanley and Emma Iola (Smith) Strever. He was raised in Waterbury, attended local schools and was a graduate of Leavenworth High School. A member of the U.S. Navy Seabees, he had served honorably in 130th Construction Battalion for 27 months as a first class carpenters mate, serving 11 months in Hawaii and was then part of the invasion of Okinawa.
A 42 year employee of the Waterbury Farrell Foundry he started as a wood pattern maker and retired as a machinist on November 29, 1982. He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church and served as treasurer of the West Cemetery Association in Plymouth for over 50 years.
He is survived by his son, the Rev. Wayne Arthur Strever and his wife the Rev. Kathy Faber of Somers; his daughter, Sheila Strever Johnson and her husband Ernest of Bristol; one sister, Edna Talmadge of Naugatuck; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, at 11:00 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High Street, Thomaston. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be in the spring in the West Cemetery in Plymouth.
